Guest Blog – Energy healing, reiki and the chakras for beginners

chakra system 3

Hi, my name is Amy and I am a Holistic Therapist, Intuitive Life Coach, Energy Healer, Meditation Teacher and Tarot reader. I am also the founder and owner of “A Tranquil Soul” traditional holistic therapies and founder of the; “Spiritual Transition Tribe”, which is a group of likeminded people who want to learn more about all aspects of spirituality including, energy work and meditation.

I have been working with energy on and off my whole life using various tools.  I became a Reiki Practitioner in 2015, then later in 2019 I became a Reiki Master.

People often ask me; “What is reiki?” and “What are chakras?” so I would like to give you a little more insight into this, along with energy healing and its benefits.

What is reiki?

The entire universe is made up of energy and our bodies are no exception. We all have life force energy running through us, known by other names such as; “Chi” or “Prana”. This energy should be free flowing, up and down the energy centres (Chakras), giving equal amounts of energy to each.

When we reach equilibrium in the mind, body and soul, we function at our highest level, experience life in the best way and are healthy.

Reiki is an energy healing practice which promotes the flow of energy in your energetic body. It helps to release stale energy and energetic blocks. Reiki cannot do harm, it can only do good. It is a truly wonderful energy that is so relaxing, rejuvenating and calming. Reiki promotes a deep relaxation, which is when the body heals and repairs itself, and is fantastic for helping with the stresses of life, restoring balance and peace. It is great for so many people for many different reasons.

Reiki can help people who suffer from; anxiety, depression, migraines, Fibromyalgia, MS and ME/CFS. Reiki has really helped my clients in ways that even I have been amazed at!

Daily stresses, life events, holding onto the past, negative experiences and ancestral energy can create blockages in the chakras. When the energy is not flowing evenly between the chakras, this is where illness, disease and negative attitudes begin to manifest. This is why it is important to work on the chakras being in “alignment”. For example; a lot of people suffer with anxiety and feel this in their bellies. This is where the solar plexus chakra is located. The solar plexus chakra governs the digestive system and so over time of this chakra being out of balance, or even blocked it can lead to digestive issues such as IBS, heartburn and Crohn’s disease. When this chakra is then rebalanced, often the symptoms will go away. This is because the stale energy has been released, and the chakra spins as it should, therefore manifesting no physical symptoms or pain.

What are chakras?

The word “Chakra” is a Sanskrit word translated as ‘wheel’. The chakras are energy vortexes which run down the centre of the body and spin, enabling the flow of energy up and down the body.

We have 7 major chakras.

Each chakra regulates different things, they each have their own role to play and they each provide us with different levels of emotional, physical and spiritual support.

Root Chakra

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and its colour is red. It is related to feelings of being safe, grounded, survival and physical needs. The spine, legs and bones are linked to this charka. When the root chakra is balanced a person will feel; calm, grounded, safe and stable. When the root chakra is out of balance a person will feel tired, restricted, held back and may suffer from panic attacks, anxiety and overthinking.

Sacral Chakra

The sacral chakra is located in the pelvis area, just below the navel and its colour is orange. It is related to the inner child, creativity, fertility and sexuality. This is one of your emotion centres and it is linked to the reproduction part of the body and hips. When the sacral chakra is balanced a person will feel; comfortable with their emotions, creative and balanced. When the root chakra is out of balance a person will feel emotionally unbalanced, lethargic, unmotivated, sad and lonely.

Solar plexus chakra

The solar plexus chakra is located above the navel, just below the ribs and its colour is yellow. It is related to personal power, will, energy and emotions. It is linked to your digestive system and is also known as the second brain, “the gut”. When the solar plexus chakra is balanced a person will feel; happy, passionate, confident and motivated. When the solar plexus chakra is out of balance a person will feel unable to take responsibility, they will have a victim mentality, have weak will and low self-esteem. If the solar plexus is overactive a person may feel competitive, power hungry, aggressive and hyperactive.

Heart chakra

The heart chakra is located in the middle of your chest and its colour is green. It is related to relationships, self-love, compassion, trust and balances the upper and lower chakras. It is linked to your heart, lungs and blood. When the heart chakra is balanced a person will feel; love of themselves and others, compassion, gratitude and a desire to help others. When the heart chakra is out of balance a person will feel detached from the World, hopelessness, uncommitted, apathetic, confused and frustrated.

Throat chakra

The throat chakra is located at the base of your throat and its colour is blue. It is related to communication, expression and honesty. It is linked to your thyroid, ears, nose and throat. When the throat chakra is balanced a person will feel; peaceful, authentic, and harmony with the ability to tune into energy. When the throat chakra is out of balance a person will feel; anxious, restless, too much talking or lost for words, tactless and rudeness.

Third eye chakra

The third eye chakra is located in between the eyebrows and its colour is indigo. It is related to your intuition, wisdom and connection to your higher self. It is linked to your eyes and endocrine system. When the third eye chakra is balanced a person will feel; spiritual awakeness, profound insights, meaning and clarity in your life, healing abilities and knowledge. When the third eye chakra is out of balance a person will feel; grief, mental slavery, imprisoned, narrow-minded, and dismissive of their own spiritual experience.

Crown chakra

The crown chakra is located just above the crown of your head and its colour is purple or brilliant white. It is related to universal consciousness, enlightenment and inspiration. It is linked to your brain and skull. When the crown chakra is balanced a person will feel; bliss, true letting go into the being, awareness of infinite potential and wholeness. When the crown chakra is out of balance a person will feel; withdrawn, depressed, longing for something more in life, and unconnected spiritually.

How to balance your chakras

So how do you balance your chakras? Well there are lots of things that influence the chakras and resonate with the vibration of the chakra to help it become balanced again. Generally, taking good care of your physical and emotional self helps the chakras but here are a few other things your can do to help;

1 – Crystals

Crystals are brilliant! There are many different crystals all of which have their own individual healing properties (another topic for another blog).

My top tip for choosing the correct crystal for each chakra is to choose a colour of the crystal that matches the colour of the chakra (you can also use black crystals for the root chakra).

2 – Food

Eating foods which are the colour of the chakras is another great way to bring in balance, literally eating the colour of the rainbow benefits the energy centres.

3 – Yoga and Tai Chi

Practicing Yoga and Tai Chi both helps the flow of energy in the body as it helps to move along stale energy and blockages.

4 – Aura cleansing

Burning sage, incense or Palo Santo helps to remove negative energy and cleanse the aura.

5 – Baths

Having a bath with salts promotes the detoxification in the body, along with all the minerals that are in the bath salts. This too is cleansing.

6 – Letting go

Letting go of the past, forgiveness and compassion really do help the energetic body be more in balance. Holding onto old energy only creates an imbalance.

Let love and compassion in and out as a constant flow of energy.

7 – Chakra balancing treatments

Can be done in person or through distance healing sessions with an energy healer. This will balance and energise your energy centres. I always give feedback to my client as to what is going on with their chakras as I feel this is important for my clients to have awareness so that they can work on it going forward.

For me, becoming aware of the energetic body and understanding how to work with it to ensure it is balanced has been one of the best things I have done to date.

I am the happiest, healthiest and calmest I have ever been! Along with the tools used to balance the chakras and understanding energy I have developed a deeper understanding of who I am, my triggers and past trauma that has needed healing. I have worked on these and will continue to do so. Life is about finding balance, love and gratitude and I wholeheartedly recommend reiki as a way to bring this in to your life.
